In Praise of Boredom

This was originally going to be a video pod-cast but once i fired up the video editing software i realised my beard was so large i resembled Tom Hanks in that film where he shouts at a football, or was it a vollyball i've never seen it so i don't know. So after i finished this i plan to shave it off and in doing so probably lose a couple of pounds of weight and considerable strain on my neck. Anyway Boredom, it got me thinking. Of course the main reason it got me thinking was because i was so bored that i could only think about being bored. I wander if i have said the word bored enough yet, i think you get the point. The internet is the home of the bored man these days, where as in the past a book or the wireless might have sufficed the modern man only the internet will do when it comes to relieving the most natural of mans emotions. Mostly the internet delivers, it has such wide ranging delights such as this or indeed this (i promise i am not ricrolling you guys). There comes a time in every students life thou when the internet loses its gloss, what you once thought was a wonderful resource for enriching your life, 100% more informative than mere books and 1 million time more interactive than watching tv. You realise it for what it is, a collection of other bored people, just look at facebook thats just a socail network of millions of users around the world staring at computer screens being a bit bored. Come to think of it you have to be incredibly bored to even be reading this. Frankly I had to be incredibly bored to write it. Which brings me round me to my point. Boredom is the most beautiful of human emotions because it is the one that makes us create or enjoy, the one that makes us try and improve are lives even if it is  for the sake of not being so bored you tear your own eyes out.

Just re-read that last bit, i sounded a bit well... Self help book. More posts soon

bored:adj. - Uninterested because of frequent exposure or indulgence; Tired of the world.

In praise of........... A technology free week

Due to the barge trip and having to travel straight to a wedding there after i have been without my computer for a whole week ( and mostly without my phone). Now due to my unemployed status and unhealthy addiction to a certain MMORPG, i spend a hell of allot of time in front of my little black box of tricks. It contains my music, my videos, and most importantly the internet, the most important technological advancement in my life time. To not have this for a week, was re-markable refreshing, dont get me wrong i am not about to run away and live in a cave, as you can tell as i am currently sitting at my computer smashing away at my keys as usual. But it did make me me long for the days when scoial networking consisted of a drink with your mates, and for that matter your friends where counted by the number of people who had seen you be sick, not in a number on face-book ( yes.. i hate social networking websites). i am beginnig to sound like out of those old people who say " Back in my day, we didnt have telephones, we got by with smoke signals, now those where the days" so dont misunderstand me i am not about to throw away my laptop, or phone , or psp and ds, however i might try not to be glue to it every five seconds. i might even give up WOW. Now that is crazy talk....

Ps: Anybody who read's the guardian will know i have nicked the "In Praise of...." idea form the comment pages, but who cares Im lazy

Barge, the review

When the idea of the anime society barge holiday was first thought of i am pretty sure i was drunk, also i am pretty sure i thought at the time it was an awesome but utterly ludicrous idea. which all in all seemed to be a good pre curser to the actual trip, drunk, awesome and ludicrous. I wont go into everything that happened, Mainly becuase i cant remeber much ( damn you vodka) and partly because what happens on the Barge STAYS ON THE BARGE, (i feel your pain rupert). Some of the more interesting moments include Matt falling in (sorry my fault) Mike launching him self off a barge to have a fight ( "mike performs Leaping attack") and Aaron piloting the barge the drunkest i have ever seen a man ( and then vomiting for 16 hours afterwards). I was plesantly suprised with the ammount of fun i had with the actauly boating stuff, the locks in particallar where good fun, but as matt pointed out to me it was probably to do with the fact we where dicking about. whislt we did venture out into the wider world the most fun was had in the nights on the barge, in particular ring of fire and semi naked Wednesdays as-well as the best 17 man version of "Got to catch them all" ever heard by man. I would certainly reccomend the trip to anybody who is interested in doing somthing a little different to the normal city break.
